Where to apply Typhoon Valve System
In general, the further upstream a low shear Typhoon Valve System is used, the higher the potential. Prime targets for use of the Typhoon Valve System are therefore oil production choke valves and separator level control valves.
It is important to realize that the creation of emulsions normally does not require a high pressure drop (ref. doc. SPE 18204 and SPE 56643). Significant improved separation with Typhoon Valve System compared to conventional valves has already be tested down to 1 bar (14,5 psi) pressure drop.
Recorded improvements in OiW are as high as 40-60% in comparison to conventional valves, as demonstrated in the successful offshore installation of Typhoon® System on Statoil’s Troll C.
For produced water applications, pressure drop, inlet droplet size and oil concentration are more important. Recorded improvement in OiW are as high as 20-25% in comparison to conventional valves, as presented in this business case about meeting environmental targets with a low shear Typhoon Valve System.
